What You Need

  • An Android phone or tablet
  • Microsoft Edge browser (version 125 or later)
  • Edge supports extensions on Android, which is how Helperbird works on your phone

Step 1: Install Microsoft Edge

If you do not have Edge installed, download it from the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Enable Helperbird

  1. Open Microsoft Edge on your Android device
  2. Tap the three-dot menu at the bottom of the screen
  3. Tap Extensions
  4. Search for Helperbird and tap Get
  5. Tap Add to install the extension

Edge will download and enable Helperbird automatically.

Step 3: Open Helperbird on a Website

  1. Go to any website in Edge
  2. Tap the three-dot menu at the bottom of the screen
  3. Tap Extensions
  4. Tap Helperbird to open it

Helperbird will appear as a panel over the page.

Step 4: Use Helperbird Features

You can use the same features as on desktop, including:

  • Text to Speech — Have any text read aloud
  • Extract Text (OCR) — Point your camera or select an image to pull text out of it
  • Dyslexia Fonts — Switch to a more readable font
  • Color Overlays — Reduce eye strain with a tinted overlay
  • Reading Mode — Strip away clutter and focus on the content
  • Immersive Reader — Use Microsoft's reading tool

Tap any feature to turn it on. Your settings are saved automatically.

Step 5: Sign In to Pro

To unlock all features, sign in with your email or subscription key:

  1. Open Helperbird from the Extensions menu
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Settings
  3. Tap Subscription key
  4. Paste your key and tap Save

Tips

  • Pin Helperbird — In the Extensions menu, tap the pin icon next to Helperbird so it appears in your toolbar for quick access
  • OCR on the go — The Extract Text feature is great for reading printed text in the real world, like signs, worksheets, or textbook pages
  • Offline features — Font changes, overlays, and reading rulers work without an internet connection

Huge fan of the zoom feature. It trumps the native zoom in your browser since the zoom level you set actually stays with you no matter what page you go to, which is very helpful and meshes well with the other features the app offers.

the BEST addon for accessibility on Firefox. I very much love using its Reading Ruler, and sometimes its Reading mode/voice too.

I found this extension on a whim to help myself. Suffering with post concussion syndrome symptoms and working remotely is really hard! This extension basically saved my job. It gave me back productivity and the ability to read the screen. This extension has so many neat features I never even knew I needed. I love this and you will too! You don't need to be dyslexic or have dyslexia for this extension to benefit you. Do yourself a giant favor and get it! I highly recommend it!

I have been a user of Helperbird for the past year or so and a huge fan of the work Robert has done. I have switched from Chrome to Firefox and glad this here too. 5/5. Can't wait for Voice Typing support
