What is the Notebook?

The Notebook is a central place where all your saved content is stored. This includes sticky notes you have created, text you have extracted from images, and passages you have highlighted on websites.

You can filter, organize, print, and export all your notes from this one location.

Who is This For?

This feature is helpful for:

  • Students who save notes and highlights while studying
  • Researchers who collect information from multiple websites
  • Anyone who uses sticky notes to annotate web pages
  • People who extract text from images and want to save it
  • Anyone who wants to keep their saved content organized

Step 1: Open Helperbird

Click the Helperbird icon in your browser toolbar. It looks like a small owl and is usually in the top-right corner of your browser.

This will open the Helperbird menu.

Step 2: Go to the All Features Section

Scroll down to the bottom of the Helperbird menu. You will see a section called All Features.

Click the arrow next to All Features to expand it and show all available features.

Step 3: Find Open Notes

Look through the list of features until you see Open Notes or Notebook.

Click on it to open your Notebook in a new browser tab.

Step 4: Search Your Notes

At the top of the Notebook, you will see a search bar. Type any keyword to instantly filter your notes. This makes it easy to find specific notes, even if you have saved many.

Click the X button next to the search bar to close search and see all your notes again.

Step 5: View Your Notes

Your Notebook shows all your saved content in a clean card layout. At the top, you will see tabs to filter what is displayed:

  • Everything – Shows all your saved items
  • Notes – Shows only sticky notes you have created
  • Extracted – Shows text you have extracted from images
  • Highlighter – Shows content you have highlighted on websites

Click any tab to filter your notes.

Step 6: Manage Your Notes

Once in your Notebook, you can:

  • Create a Note – Click the New note button in the toolbar to write a note without leaving the Notebook. These notes are saved in a General group because they are not attached to a web page

  • Edit a Note – Click the pencil button on a note's card to change its title, body, or color

  • Edit a Highlight – Click the pencil button on a highlight's card to change its title, description, or color. The text captured from the page cannot be changed

  • Select Notes – Click the Select Notes button to choose multiple notes at once

  • Visit Source – Click the Visit button on any note to go back to the original website where you saved it

  • Print Notes – After selecting notes, click the Print button to print them

  • Export Notes – Click the Export button to save your selected notes as a PDF file. The PDF has a branded Helperbird header, groups your notes by website, and shows a category badge and date on each note

Tip: Use the search bar to quickly find specific notes by keyword. Regularly export important notes to keep backups of your research and ideas.

Helperbird does so many things that are game changing for me! By far the two most important are the font changes and the highlight ruler. I can change fonts to something dyslexia friendly. The ruler helps me stay on the line I'm trying to read. These two things change the blur into words! Tech support has been great when I have had problems!

Where to start! Firstly, I'd like to thank Robert (the developer) for his generosity - the app is extremely cheap as apps go. It is very apparent that this app is a labour of love - Robert is constantly working on it and improving things, adding new features, etc. As someone with ADHD and ASD, I have always had to piece-meal together the features I need to help me study effectively - half a dozen different apps / extensions, and even then they don't quite meet my expectations. Helperbird, however, offers SO MUCH more, and all in one place - you can finetune your experience to your heart's desire. The features I particularly love are summarise, simplify, sticky notes, highlighting, and the amazing immersive reader with TTS. I can't sing Helperbird's praises enough. Thank you, Robert, for such a thoughtful - and genuinely helpful - app. You are empowering the neurodivergent everywhere.

This chrome extension is absolutely amazing. I'm a Primary school teacher and it helps children with a broad range of needs. It's so easy to set up. I love the way it syncs across devices so set up is seamless across all the children's computers. The customizable features are a game changer for allowing children to enjoy reading and accessing the web in our school. The best application I have ever seen for school children. Looking forward to trying the iPad application soon.
